Missions

2007 Youth Ministry Mission Team to the Dream Center in Los AngelesMissions are a very important part of our ministry.  We have a partnership with a church in Monterrey, Mexico, to which we have taken several mission trips and were planning another one for the Summer of 2009, before the drug violence broke out.  In addition to group mission trips, several individuals from our fellowship have been or are going on personal mission trips with other missionary organizations to Chile, Thailand, New Zealand, China, Kazakhstan, Scotland, Germany, Amsterdam, and Tenerife.

We believe that mission work includes what is commonly called the Great Commission, where Jesus instructed his first disciples to “Go and Make Disciples.”  This involves introducing people to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in that understanding and how it applies to their lives.

We also believe in what is less commonly known as the The Great Compassion, or missions that focus on meeting needs.  It is a mission that is focused purely on meeting people’s needs, with or without an opportunity to verbally share Jesus.  It’s rooted in Matthew 25:34-40.

Either type of mission expresses the love of God and is worthy of our involvement; however, we love it when we can do both.  For example, we onced participated in a missing by raising enough money to install a water well in a village in India where clean water is not available.  The well was installed in conjunction with a local church, making the pastor and people of that church the town heroes.  That adds credibility to the Gospel as the pastor declares to the people that Jesus Christ did for them what their 30,000 Hindu gods could not--provide clean water.  Obviously that makes it much more likely that people will accept the fact that Jesus, and Jesus only, is the way, truth, and the life.
